Connect the noid light to the fuel injector
connector terminals.

Verify the light dimness during cranking.
z
Does the noid light illuminate?
No
Repair or replace if necessary, then go to
Step 13.

INSPECT FUEL INJECTOR OPERATION
z
Remove fuel injector from the suspected
cylinder. (See
FUEL INJECTOR
REMOVAL/INSTALLATION [MZI-3.7]
.)
z
Swap the fuel injector with one from another
cylinder.
z
Start the engine and run it at idle.
z
Is there the misfire DTC for the cylinder
which has a suspected fuel injector?
Yes
Replace fuel injector, then go to Step 13.

No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT FOR AIR SUCTION AT INTAKE
AIR SYSTEM
z
Inspect for air leakage at the following:

Around the connection of the dynamic
chamber and the intake manifold
{
Around the connection of the intake
manifold and the cylinder head
{
Is air leakage found?
Yes Repair or replace the suspected part, then
go to Step 13.
No
Go to the next step.

INSPECT SEALING OF ENGINE COOLANT
PASSAGE
WARNING:
z
Never remove the cooling system cap or
loosen the radiator drain plug while the
engine is running, or when the engine and
radiator are hot. Scalding engine coolant
and steam may shoot out and cause
serious injury. It may also damage the
engine and cooling system.
z
Turn off the engine and wait until it is cool.
Even then, be very careful when removing
the cap. Wrap a thick cloth around it and
slowly turn it counterclockwise to the first
stop. Step back while the pressure
escapes.
z
When you are sure all the pressure is gone,
press down on the cap using the cloth, turn
it, and remove it.
Yes
Air penetrates due to poor sealing of the
head gasket or other areas between the
combustion chamber and the engine
coolant passage. Repair or replace
malfunctioning parts, then go to Step 13.
