
To prevent any cross-infection between patients the following
precautions must be considered:

Wipe down the outside of the machine with proper disinfectant.
•
To protect the pressure connections on the machine, use blood lines
where hydrofobic
fi
lters are integrated. Especially note that if any
of the hydrofobic
fi
lters have been
fi
lled with blood and show signs
of damage, the machine components for pressure measurements
must be replaced and cleaned by an authorized technician.
Glossary of Disinfection Terms
Disinfection
is removal or reduction of bacteria in the
fl
uid path of
the dialysis machine.
Decalci
fi
cation
is removal of calcium and magnesium-carbonate
precipitates in the
fl
uid path, originating from the bicarbonate dialysis
fl
uid.
Cleaning
is removal of fats, proteins and organic material, originating
from the patient and located mainly in the
fl
uid path of the machine
downstream of the dialyzer.
Dwell Time
is the time when the
fl
uid path of the machine is
fi
lled
with the correct concentration of disinfectant.
