Distance to Fault Tab
With option K3, the R&S
ZNL/ZNLE can locate faults and discontinuities on cables and
transmission lines. The measured S-parameter trace is mathematically converted to
the time domain, and represented in the distance domain. On the resulting trace, faults
appear as peaks above a certain level.
The default measurement logic implemented on the "Distance to Fault" (DTF) tab focu-
ses on the canonical case where the reflections of cable connected to Port 2 shall be
observed. The x-axis of the DTF trace (derived from S22) shows the distance from the
calibrated reference plane.
●
If option K3 is not installed on the R&S
ZNL/ZNLE, the "Distance to Fault" tab is
hidden.
●
In order to achieve the best distance resolution, set the sweep span to its maxi-
mum possible value and use the
sweep points.

Controls on the Distance to Fault Tab
The "Distance to Fault" tab provides controls that allow to enable and configure a stan-
dard Distance to Fault (DtF) measurement.
