5.4.1. LASER TRACES
The X-ray device is equipped with three light beams to simplify the patient positioning:
1) Upper Horizontal Laser used for all PAN, DENT, SIN, TMJ,
CBCT examinations
2) Sagittal Vertical Laser used for all examinations
3) Vertical focusing Laser used for PAN, DENT, SIN, TMJ
examinations
Upper horizontal beam (1)
It is generated by a laser source located on the side of the X-ray generator; it can be adjusted up or down to suit
different-sized heads by acting on the lever located next to the light beam opening. This beam is used in PAN and
DENT examinations in order to ensure that the Frankfurt plane of the patient is horizontal and, in general, the patient's
correct positioning.
The Frankfurt plane is represented by an imaginary line going from the upper margin of the auditory meatus to the
lower border of the bony orbit.
Sagittal vertical beam (2)
It ensures the symmetry between the patient's head and the midsagittal line. While observing this beam, you must
make sure that the patient looks straight ahead, in order to avoid that he/she tilts or slightly rotates his/her head.
Vertical focusing beam (3)
It shows the exact position of the focal ridge; in order to obtain a good focusing in PAN and DENT examinations, this
beam must coincide with the upper canine cusp. The same beam is used to point at the exact position of the condylar
head for TMJ examinations.
Each time you press the CONFIRM button, all movable parts of the device start to move. Pay attention NOT
to press the button while positioning the patient and make sure that the device can move safely.
