configured IP multicast. If no IP address is specified, the
no
form of the command removes all
configured MVR IP multicast addresses.
Any multicast data sent to this address is sent to all source ports and all receiver ports that have
elected to receive data on that multicast address. Each multicast address corresponds to one
television channel.
By default, no IP multicast addresses are configured. The default group IP address count is 1.
NOTE
Each IP address translates to a multicast 48-bit MAC address. If an IP address
being configured translates (aliases) to a previously configured MAC address or to
any reserved multicast MAC addresses, the command fails.
Command Syntax
device-name
(config)#
mvr
group A.B.C.D
[
<count>
]
device-name
(config)#
no mvr
group
[
A.B.C.D
]
Argument Description
A.B.C.D
The IP multicast address of the MVR group.
count
(Optional). Configures multiple contiguous MVR group addresses in the range
<1-256>. The default is 1 group.
Example 1
The following example shows how to configure 228.1.23.4 as an IP multicast address:
device-name
(config)#
mvr group 228.1.23.4
Example 2
The following command fails because of address aliasing. Note that if the
mvr group
command is
entered two times an warning message is returned:
device-name
(config)#
mvr group 230.1.23.4
% Group exists
Example 3
The following example shows how to configure ten contiguous IP multicast groups with multicast
addresses from 228.1.23.1 to 228.1.23.10:
device-name
(config)#
mvr group 228.1.23.1 10
Setting the MVR Query Time
The
mvr querytime
command, in Global Configuration mode, sets the maximum time to wait for
IGMP report memberships on a receiver port before removing the port from multicast group
membership. The
no
form of this command restores the default setting.
The query-time applies only to receiver ports and affects leave processing. When an IGMP query is
sent to a receiver port, the device waits for the default or configured MVR query-time for an IGMP
group membership report before removing the port from multicast group membership.
