Setting a Single-line MOTD
The
banner set
command, in Global Configuration mode, assigns the specified string to single-line
MOTD (message-of-the-day). The
no
form of the command removes the banner.
The MOTD string is displayed before
User Access Verification
and the password prompt.
Command Syntax
device-name
(config)#
banner set MOTD-STRING
device-name
(config)#
no banner
Argument Description
MOTD-STRING
Any string up to 1024 characters, including blank spaces and practically any
character except for a question mark (?).
Example
To set a single-line MOTD:
device-name
(config)#
banner set
DO NOT CHANGE CONFIGURATION WITHOUT NOTICING THE SYSADMIN!

Setting a Multi-line MOTD
The
banner set multiline
command, in Global Configuration mode, assigns the specified string to
a multi-line MOTD (message-of-the-day). The
no
form of the command removes the banner.
The user can enter a multi-line text, ending it with the caret (^) character.
The MOTD string is displayed before
User Access Verification
and the password prompt.
