Generating the Default Route
The
default-information
command, in Router OSPF Configuration mode, generates a default
route into an OSPF routing domain. The
no
form of this command disables this feature.
Whenever the user uses the
redistribute
or the
default-information
commands to redistribute
routes into an OSPF routing domain, the application software automatically activates the router to
become an autonomous system boundary router (ASBR). However, an ASBR does not, by default,
generate a
default route
into the OSPF routing domain. The software must still have a default route
for itself before it generates one, except when the user has specified the
always
keyword.

Argument Description
always
(Optional). Always advertises the default route regardless of whether the
software has a default route.
metric
<
value
>
(Optional). Metric used for generating the default route. If the user omits a
value and do not specify a value by using the
default-metric
command, the
default metric value is 10. The value used is specific to the protocol. The
range is <0-16777214>.
metric-type
1
or
2
(Optional). External link type associated with the default route advertised into
the OSPF routing domain. It can be one of the following values:
1: Type 1 external route
2: Type 2 external route.
The default is Type 2.
route-map
MAP-NAME
(Optional). The routing process will generate the default route if the route map
is satisfied.
Example
The following example specifies a metric of 100 for the default route redistributed into the OSPF
routing domain and an external metric type of Type 1:
device-name
(config-router)#
router ospf
device-name
(config-router)#
