Argument Description
NAME
String of up to 256 characters, which represents the port name. Spaces are allowed.
Setting Interface Speed
The
speed
command, in Interface Configuration mode, specifies the port speed.
The Giga copper ports have
crossover detection
. The crossover detection allows the port
automatically to detect, transmit and receive polarity of the Ethernet cable (e.g. the type of the
cable is irrelevant).
NOTE
If two Gigabit fiber ports communicate with each other and the remote Gigabit
fiber port is set to autonegotiation, setting the speed on the local Gigabit fiber port
to a fixed value may result an unpredictable results, such as detecting no physical
connection (link down). To ensure reliable performance, either leave
autonegotiation enabled on both: the remote and local ports or set the same duplex
mode for both of them.

Argument Description
auto
When this option is selected, the port automatically finds the highest speed that
can be supported on the link.
10
Sets the interface duplex speed type to 10Mbps.
100
Sets the interface duplex speed type to 100Mbps.
1000
Sets the interface duplex speed type to 1Gbps.
NOTE
The 100M FX ports support an internal protection, which shuts the ports down
administratively in case that the user tries to use these ports for Giga Ethernet
traffic.
NOTE
The autonegotiate option is not available on the fast Ethernet fiber interfaces.
Setting Interface Duplex Mode
The
duplex
command, in Interface Configuration mode, changes the port duplex mode.
By default, the device is configured to use auto-negotiation to determine the port speed and duplex
setting for each port. The duplex setting and the speed of 10/100/1000 Mbps ports can be manually
configured.
