Creating a Banner
The user can configure a message-of-the-day (MOTD) and a login banner. The MOTD banner
displays on all connected terminals at login and is useful for sending messages that affect all
network users (such as impending system shutdowns).
The login banner also displays on all connected terminals. It is displayed after the MOTD banner
and before the login prompts.
Table 11
lists the MOTD banner commands.
NOTE
The banner commands will take effect only after the switch is reloaded.

Sets the default MOTD (message-of-the-day) string.
banner set
Assigns the specified string to a single-line MOTD (message-of-
the-day).
banner set multiline
Assigns the specified string to multi-line MOTD (message-of-
the-day).
Setting a Default MOTD
The
banner motd default
command, in Global Configuration mode, sets a default MOTD
(message-of-the-day) string. The
no
form of the command removes the default banner.
This default MOTD string is the “
Hello, this is OS CLI
”
string that is displayed before
User Access Verification
and the password prompt.
