Argument Description
auto
Enables the autonegotiate mode on the configured interface.
full
Enables the full duplex mode on the configured interface.
half
Enables the half duplex mode on the configured interface.
Setting the Backpressure Mode
The
backpressure
command, in Interface Configuration mode, changes the backpressure mode.
Backpressure is a technique for ensuring that a transmitting port does not send too much data to a
receiving port at a given time. When the buffer capacity of a receiving port is exceeded, it sends a
Jam message
to the transmitting port to halt transmission.
Backpressure is available only when the port operates in half-duplex mode.
By default, backpressure is disabled.
NOTE
Backpressure is available only when the port transmits or receives in half-duplex
mode.

Setting the Flow Control
Mode
The
flow-control
command, in Interface Configuration mode, controls the flow control mode.
Flow control is a technique for ensuring that a transmitting port does not send too much data to a
receiving port at a given time.
If a buffer on a port runs out of space, the port transmits a special packet that requests remote ports
to delay sending packets for a period of time. The
flow-control
command is available only when
the port operates in full-duplex mode.
By default the flow control is disabled.
NOTE
Flow control will be functional only if the duplex speed status of the port is Full. It
is possible to enable flow control on interfaces for which duplex speed is set to
“autonegotiate”. However, flow control will take place only when the
communication between the interfaces is full duplex.
