Table 2: MAC Address Table Configuration Commands
Command
Description
mac-address-table
Adds a static, dynamic or secure entry to the MAC address table.
mac-address-table
filtered
Adds a filtered entry to the MAC address table.
Adding a New Entry
The
mac-address-table
command, in Global Configuration mode, adds a static, dynamic or secure
entry to the MAC address table. The command specifies the entry MAC address, the port number
and the VLAN ID.
A
static address
has these characteristics:
•
It is manually entered in the address table and must be manually removed.
•
It must be an unicast address.
•
It does not age and is retained when the device is restarted.
You add a
static address
to the address table by specifying the destination MAC address (unicast)
and the VLAN to which it pertains. Packets received with this destination address are forwarded to
the specified interface. A
secure addres
s is a manually entered unicast address or a dynamically
learned address that is forwarded to only one port. Secure addresses can be learned dynamically if
the configured secure addresses do not reach the maximum limit of the port.
Although a
dynamic
address is manually entered, the behavior of this MAC address is identical to a
MAC address that was learned dynamically.
NOTE
When the MAC Address table contains the maximum number of entries,
additional features like VLANs, VPLS and related features cannot be enabled.
NOTE
The
mac-address-table
command cannot be used to set the self switch MAC address,
multicast MAC address or broadcast MAC address
