Argument Description
PASSWORD
A character string without blank spaces. The password is case
sensitive. It is recommended to use a string up to 64 characters.
CONFIRM-PASSWORD
Retype the password for confirmation.
Example
The following command sets the password to
switch12
:

Setting a Password to Access Privileged (Enable) Mode
The
enable password
command, in Global Configuration mode, sets a password to access
Privileged (Enable) mode from View mode. The
no
form of this command removes the password.
When a password is set by the
enable password
command, a prompt for the password is issued in
response to the
enable
command in View mode. Note that the password is not displayed when
typing it in the login prompt.
By default, no password is required to access Privileged (Enable) mode.
