Argument Description
device
(Optional). The device to which the file is to be copied. It can be provided
either as a TFTP server (the format used should be
tftp://A.B.C.D
) or as the
local flash system (the format used should be
flash:
).
path
(Optional). The path to the location where the file is to be copied to.
file-name
The original name of the file.
Example
The following command downloads the start-up configuration file named
START002
located on
the TFTP server at IP address 192.192.54.1:

Saving the Switch Configuration
The
copy running-config startup-config
command, in Privileged (Enable) mode, copies the
running-configuration to the startup configuration. This is the configuration that will be saved and
loaded each time power to the unit is turned on.
This command is equivalent to the
write memory
command in Privileged (Enable) mode.

Downloading a Configuration File to the Switch Running
Configuration
The
copy
file-name
running-config
command, in Privileged (Enable) mode, loads a running-
configuration with the specified file name from a remote server with the specified IP address.
The commands from the downloaded running-configuration are executed and the result is a merge
between the previous running-configuration and the current switch configuration.
NOTE
This command does not require to reboot the switch.
