Point-to-point
The device is considered to be connected to a point-to-point LAN segment, which forces
the operational link-type to be point-to-point.

The device is considered to be connected to a shared media LAN segment, which forces
the operational link-type to be

2. Operational Link-Type
If Admin link-type is set to Auto, then the value of Operational link-type
is determined in
accordance with the specific procedures defined for the device entity concerned, as defined in
Admin link-type (auto).
If these procedures determine that the device entity is connected to a point-to-point LAN segment,
then Operational link-type
is set to point-to-point, otherwise it is set to
Shared
.
In the absence of a specific definition of how to determine whether the device is connected to a
point-to-point LAN segment or not, the value of link-type shall be
Shared
.
