Defining a Default Gateway
The
ip irdp address
command, in IP Interface Configuration mode, advertises another device as
the default gateway. The command argument is the IP address of the desired default gateway. The
no
form of this command sets the current router as the default gateway.
By default, the advertised IP address is the IP address of the IP interface on which IRDP was
initiated.
Command Syntax
device-name
(config-if
swN
)#
ip irdp address A.B.C.D
device-name
(config-if
swN
)#
no ip irdp address
Argument Description
A.B.C.D
The IP address of the device advertised as the default gateway.
Assigning the Default Gateway Preference Value
The
ip irdp preference
command, in IP Interface Configuration mode, assigns a default-gateway
preference value to the configured IP interface for the given network. The hosts choose the default
gateway according to this preference. The
no
form of this command sets the default value.
The user can use the
blackhole
argument to specify explicitly that the device is
not
to be used as a
gateway by any client on the network. The preference value in this case is set to 2147483648
(hexadecimal 0x80000000 as defined in RFC 1256,
ICMP Router Discovery Messages
).
By default, the assigned default-gateway preference value is 0.
Command Syntax
device-name
(config-if sw1)#
ip irdp preference
{
+
|
-
} <
value
>
device-name
(config-if sw1)#
ip irdp preference blackhole
device-name
(config-if sw1)#
no ip irdp preference
Argument Description
+
Sign preceding positive or zero preference level.
-
Sign preceding negative preference level.
value
The preference level, an integer value in the range <0-2147483647>.
The default value is 0.
blackhole
Prevents all clients on the network from using the device as a gateway. The
preference value in this case is set to 2147483648.
NOTE
1. Any positive value (as well as zero) must be preceded by a plus sign (+).
2. A blank space is required between the sign (+ or -) and the numerical value.
3. “- 0” is equivalent to “+ 0”.
Forcing an Advertisement
The
ip irdp multicast
command, in IP Interface Configuration mode, forces the router to send an
immediate IRDP advertisement packet to the network connected to the IP interface.
