Setting the Leases Database Expiration Time
The
dbexpire
command, in DHCP Server Configuration mode, specifies how long, in seconds, the
DHCP server should wait before aborting a database transfer. Transfers that exceed the timeout
period are aborted.
When the user disables the DHCP service, the DHCP server instantly creates a copy of its internal
database in the device memory. This copy is kept in memory until the
dbexpire
time value expires.
If the user enables the DHCP service before
dbexpire
time expires, the DHCP server takes the
stored database. Otherwise, the DHCP server will start with an empty database.
This mechanism is used to help the DHCP server not to forget the already granted leases.
By default, DHCP waits 86400 seconds before aborting a database transfer.
