To display light sources in a view

Add lighting fixtures to the building model.

Open a view in which you can plan the placement of the lighting fixtures.
For example, to position spotlights that illuminate a wall, open a section view, elevation view,
or 3D view.

Turn on the visibility of light sources, as follows:
a
Type

, or click View

Visibility/Graphics.

On the Model Categories tab of the Visibility/Graphics dialog, expand Lighting Fixtures.

Select Light Source.
NOTE
To hide light sources in views, clear Light Source.

Click OK.

(Optional) On the View Control Bar, for Model Graphics Style, click Shading or Shading with
Edges.
Shading allows you to see the difference between the beam angle and the field angle for spotlights.

Aiming a Spotlight
In a building model, you can control the position of a spotlight to achieve the desired lighting effects. To
position a spotlight, use its angle parameters and the Rotate tool.
To aim a spotlight

Add spotlights to the building model, placing them in their approximate locations.

Set up views, as follows:
a
Leave open (or re-open) the view in which you added the lighting fixtures. (For this
procedure, this view is referred to as the placement view.) Zoom in on the fixtures, so you
can easily select them for rotating or repositioning. Turn on the display of light sources.

Select Window menu

Close Hidden Windows to close all other project views.

Open a second view in which you will be able to see the light cast on surfaces (such as an
elevation view, section view, or 3D view). (For this procedure, this view is referred to as the
lighting view
.) On the View Control Bar, for Model Graphics Style, select Shading or Shading
with Edges. Turn on the display of light sources. (See

on page 1129.)
