If you use a different method to open a file, you must take additional steps. For further instructions, see the
following topics.
Opening a Revit Project File
1
Click File menu
➤
Open, or click
on the toolbar.
2
In the Open dialog, navigate to the folder where the project file resides. If necessary, for Files
of type, select the appropriate file type to see those files in the folder.
3
If desired, select Audit to scan all elements in the project.
The Audit option can detect and fix corrupt elements in the project. However, it can greatly
increase the time required to open files. Use this option only for periodic maintenance of large
workset-enabled files or when you are preparing to upgrade.
4
If you are opening a worksets-enabled local file and want to separate it from the central file,
select Detach from Central. For more information, see
Opening Workshared Files Independent
of the Central File
on page 1206.
5
Select the project file, and click Open.
Opening Family Libraries and Training Files
1
Click File menu
➤
Open, or click
on the toolbar.
2
On the left side of the Open dialog, select a family library or the Training Files folder.

You can add other directories to choose from in the Open dialog. See
Setting Options
on page 504.
