4.5 Troubleshooting

cover fastening screws.

does not start.
Instrument is not in
READY status.
Check display on
monitor screen.
Set the READY status by
ESC key or other means.
1) Flow cell is
contaminated.
Visual check
Clean the flow cell,
referring to 4.4.3.
2) Solvent is not
degassed
adequately.
Spike noise
appears.
Degas the solvent
adequately.
3) Bubbles
are
formed in flow
cell because its
back pressure is
inadequate.
Spike noise
appears.
When flow rate is low
(below 0.2 mL/min) or the
viscosity of mobile phase
is low, a tube for back
pressure (0.25 mm I.D.
×
1
m Teflon tube or the like)
should be added.

4) Impurities
are
contained in
solvent.
Check the solvent.
Purify or replace the
solvent.
Check for regularity
in occurrence.
5) Trouble
has
occurred on
pump.
Check for noise at
pump stop.
Make sure the pump is
normal.
3. Noise is too large.

lamp has
reached the end
of its lifetime.
Check the energy of
D
2
lamp, referring to
4.4.1.
Replace the D
2
lamp with
a new one, referring to
5.2.1.
1) Warm-up
is
insufficient.
Check power-on
time point.
Wait until signals stabilize
(for 1 hour or longer).
2) Liquid is leaking
through a joint.
Check fastening of
the joint.
Retighten the joint.
3) Impurities
are
eluted from
column.
Stop liquid delivery
from pump and
check what
happens.
Wait until impurities have
been eluted completely or
replace the column with a
new one.
4) Ambient
temperature
changes
significantly.
Measure ambient
temperature.
Minimize temperature
change.
4. Drift is excessive.
5) Use of low-purity
solvent
Check the solvent.
Purify or change the
solvent.
