Attaching Walls to Other Components
Walls do not directly attach to roofs, ceilings, and other modelling components through their properties.
Use the Attach option of the Top/Base command to explicitly join walls to other modelling components.
When attaching walls, consider the following guidelines:
■
You can attach wall tops to non-vertical reference planes.
■
You can attach walls to in-place roofs or floors.
■
If a wall's top is currently attached to a reference plane, attaching the top to a second reference plane
detaches it from the first.
■
You can attach walls that are parallel and directly above or below one another.
To attach walls to other components
1
In the drawing area, select the walls to which you want to attach another modelling component.
2
On the Options Bar, for Top/Base, click Attach.
3
Select a roof, floor, or ceiling to attach.
The selected walls attach to the selected modelling component, and Revit Architecture returns to Modify
mode. Repeat this procedure as many times as needed to attach the walls.
Attaching a Floor to a Wall's Structural Layer
When attaching a wall to a floor, you can specify whether to attach the floor to the wall's finish layer or its
structural layer. To do this, change the value for the Floor Attachment parameter in the wall’s instance
properties. (See
Wall Instance Properties
on page 604.) Be sure that the Detail Level of the view is set to
Medium or Fine.

Detaching Walls from Other Components
The Detach Top/Base command detaches walls from other modelling components or reference planes. This
command is most effective if you are in a view where you can select walls and the components to which
they are attached.
