gable A triangular area of an exterior wall formed by 2 sloping roofs, from ridge to eaves.

gbXML Green building XML, an open schema created to help building designers gather information about
the energy consumption characteristics of building projects.
To perform energy analysis for a building model, you can export a Revit project to gbXML. Using a third-party
application, analyze the resulting gbXML file to calculate the loads for the building model. See
Exporting
to gbXML on page 1296 or go to http://www.gbxml.org .
generic annotation Text that documents a building model. Generic annotations are usually related to a
parameter for a model element or type.
You can create generic annotation families and nest them inside host model families, so that the annotations
display in the project. This is useful if you want to include a label with a model family and display that label
in the project. See
Adding a Generic Annotation on page 423 and Loading Generic Annotations into Model
Families on page 422.
generic model A family of geometry that does not fit into any of the other, pre-defined categories (such as
columns, roofs, and floors). In a Revit project, an instance of a generic model is a model element.
You can create a generic model as a standard component family, or as an in-place family that is specific to
a project. (See
Family Editor Basics on page 341.) Revit Architecture provides templates for various types of
generic model families.
geometry The shape or form of a surface or solid.
girder A beam used as a main horizontal support in a building or bridge. Girders are often made of steel,
wood, or reinforced concrete.
glazing Panes or sheets of glass set into sashes or frames (for example, for windows, doors, or mirrors). See
Adding Sloped Glazing on page 611.
