If you
link
the file, Revit Architecture automatically updates the geometry to reflect changes to the xref
files. However, you cannot explode the nested xrefs to Revit elements.
For more information, see
Exploding Imported Geometry
on page 1322.
Importing or Linking CAD Files Using the Import/Link Command
1
Click File menu
➤
Import/Link
➤
CAD Formats.
2
In the Import/Link dialog, navigate to the folder that contains the file to import or link.
TIP
Make sure you import the geometric data needed for the Revit Architecture capability that you
plan to use. For more information, see
Suitability of Imported Geometry
on page 1306.
3
Select the file.
4
Select Link if you want to link the file (instead of import it).
See
Implications of Importing vs. Linking for Xrefs
on page 1307.
5
Specify the import options. See
Import Options for CAD Formats and Revit Models
on page 1312.
6
Click Open.
NOTE
If you open a DGN file, the Select View dialog displays. Select a view to open. The view
corresponds exactly to the MicroStation view and imports into Revit Architecture exactly as it appeared
in MicroStation.
7
If you chose to manually place the imported data, it displays in the drawing area and moves
with the cursor. Click to place the imported data.
You may need to zoom in to see the imported data. See
Zooming Project Views
on page 193.
Importing CAD Files Using i-drop
Revit Architecture supports the Autodesk i-drop
®
drag-and-drop feature. When i-drop objects are pulled
from an i-drop–enabled web page, Revit Architecture downloads the file and imports it as if it were pulled
from a local file.
When you drag-and-drop a file, the file is imported with the default settings. If you want to use different
settings (for example, Place at Origin rather than Place at Cursor), import the file using File
menu
➤
Import/Link. (See
Importing or Linking CAD Files Using the Import/Link Command
on page 1308.)
TIP
Make sure you import the geometric data needed for the Revit Architecture capability that you plan to use.
For more information, see
Suitability of Imported Geometry
on page 1306.
To import CAD files using i-drop
1
From an i-drop–enabled web page, click the thumbnail image of the object.
2
Drag the file from the web page into Revit Architecture.
3
Release the object directly into the active view.
