ON-BOARD DIAGNOSIS (SELF DIAGNOSIS)
PCM has on-board diagnostic system (a system self-diagnosis function).
Investigate where the trouble is by referring to “Diagnostic Flow Chart” and “Diagnostic Trouble Code” in this sec-
tion.
MALFUNCTION INDICATOR LAMP (“CHECK
ENGINE” LIGHT) CIRCUIT CHECK
Check malfunction indicator lamp circuit when the lamp is in follow-
ing conditions referring to SECTION 6E1.
Malfunction indicator lamp (“CHECK ENGINE” light) doesn’t light
at ignition switch ON though engine starts.
Malfunction indicator lamp (“CHECK ENGINE” light) doesn’t flash
just remains ON even with grounding diagnosis switch terminal.
DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) CHECK
1) Check malfunction indicator lamp (“CHECK ENGINE” light) re-
ferring to “Malfunction Indicator Lamp (“CHECK ENGINE” light)
Check” in section 6E1.
2) With the ignition switch OFF position, connect diagnosis switch
terminal (1) to ground terminal (2) in monitor coupler (3) in en-
gine room using service wire (4).
3) With the ignition switch ON position and leaving engine OFF,
read DTC from flashing pattern of malfunction indicator lamp
(“CHECK ENGINE” light). Refer to “Diagnostic Trouble Code
Table”.
4) After completing the check, turn the ignition switch OFF position
and disconnect service wire from monitor coupler.
