DIAGNOSIS
When any failure has occurred in the automatic transmission, it is necessary to perform on vehicle test first, to lo-
cate the cause of the failure and then determine whether to overhaul it or not. Once the automatic transmission
has been disassembled without investigating the cause of the failure, not only the cause would be left unknown,
but also a secondary failure could be induced. In addition, time would be wasted.
Failures which might occur in the automatic transmission can be classified into the following categories.
(1) Improper inspection, maladjustment
(2) Poor performance of engine
(3) Failure in oil pressure control system
(4) Failure in electronic control system
(5) Mechanical failure in transmission
When a vehicle with a failure is brought in, the first step is to estimate which of the above categories that failure
belongs to. For that, it is necessary to get as much information on the failure conditions as possible from the user
and based on that information conduct a test to reproduce and check the failure conditions.
