REMOVAL
1) Remove console box.
2) Disconnect gear shift & select control cables from gear shift
lever assembly.
3) Remove 4 gear shift control cable guide nuts and gear shift
lever assembly from body.
4) Disconnect shift & select cables from transmission.
5) Remove E-rings, cable grommet and cable clamp, and then
remove shift & select cables from body.
INSTALLATION
1) Apply grease to turning or sliding portions.
2) If knob has been removed from lever, apply thread lock cement
and then install knob to control lever. Make sure that knob is
aligned with lever.
3) Install control lever assembly and related parts as they were.
For positioning control lever, loosely install 4 gear shift control
cable guide nuts, adjust position and then tighten nuts. (Refer
to page 7A-8.)
NOTE:
Make sure that boots are installed correctly.
Check control lever for smooth movement after assem-
bly.
VEHICLE SPEED SENSOR (VSS)
REMOVAL
1) Disconnect negative cable at battery.
2) Disconnect VSS coupler (1).
3) Remove VSS (2).

INSTALLATION
1) Check O-ring (1) and VSS (2) surface for their flawlessness, ap-
ply oil to O-ring and install VSS to transmission.
Tightening Torque
(a): 5 N·m (0.5 kg-m, 3.5 lb-ft)
2) Connect VSS coupler.
3) Connect negative cable at battery.
