DTC 42 – TROUBLE SHOOTING

1
1) Disconnect PCM coupler with ignition switch
OFF.
2) Check resistance between “S2” terminal
and engine ground.
Is it about 16 ?
Poor connection at “S2”
terminal of PCM coupler.
If OK, substitute known-
good PCM and recheck. Go to Step 2.

Is there continuity between “S2” terminal and
engine ground? Go to Step 3. Go to Step 5.

1) Disconnect solenoid coupler.
2) Check continuity between “S2” terminal of
PCM coupler and body ground.
Is there continuity?
“W/Bl” wire shorted to
ground. Go to Step 4.

Check continuity between “B” terminal of trans-
mission side and engine ground.
Is there continuity?
Solenoid wire harness
shorted to ground. Re-
place shift solenoid as-
sembly. Intermittent trouble.

Check continuity between “S2” terminal of
PCM coupler and “B” terminal of body side.
Is there continuity?
Go to Step 6. “W/Bl” wire open.

Check resistance between “B” terminal of
transmission side and engine ground.
Is it about 16 ?
Poor connection at “B”
terminal of shift solenoid
coupler. Shift solenoid wire open.
Replace shift solenoid
assembly.
