Calibrating the test setup
Using the calibration kit (R&S FSH-Z28 or R&S FSH-Z29), the R&S Cable Rider ZPH
performs a "Full 1-Port" calibration over its entire span with 2501 sweep points. Thus, it
is not necessary to perform a new calibration after changing the frequency range or
cable length.
The R&S Cable Rider ZPH stores the calibration data in its memory. Thus, the calibra-
tion is valid after you change the operating mode or after you turn off the R&S Cable
Rider ZPH.
Before connecting the cable, you should calibrate the R&S Cable Rider ZPH to get the
best measurement results.
The R&S Cable Rider ZPH provides several calibration methods for cable measure-
ments. For more information on the methods refer to the
Chapter 7.1.7.2, "Calibration
Methods"
,
on page 138.
1. For model 02. press the [CAL] key.
For model 12, press the [CAL/SPAN] key.
2. Select the "Full 1-Port" softkey.
The R&S Cable Rider ZPH displays the selected calibration kit.
3. Select "Continue" to proceed with the selected calibration kit or "Cancel" to end the
calibration.
The R&S Cable Rider ZPH prompts you to connect a "Short", "Open" or a "Load" to
the measurement cable.
4. Firmly connect a "Short", "Open" or a "Load" to the output end of the cable.
5. Proceed with the "Continue" softkey to start the calibration.
After finishing the calibration routine, the R&S Cable Rider ZPH displayed the mes-
sage "Calibration done".
The R&S Cable Rider ZPH is now calibrated and a "(cal)" status is displayed next
to the measurement format, i.e.
. See
Measurement Trace Window
.
6. Connect the cable under test back to the measurement cable.
The R&S Cable Rider ZPH shows the cable characteristics over the cable's entire
length. With a marker, you can easily detect the distance to the cable fault.
