Figure 39-3. Management Cell Filtering
If the global SRSTATE[MCF] is not set, the filter is not activated, and all cells are passed directly from the
address mapping mechanism to the assigned channel number’s RxBD table.
If SRSTATE[MCF] is set and RCT[NIM]=0 (intrusive monitoring), the FT field defines the channel’s filter
type according to its role/location in the network:
•
For FT=00, the application behaves as a pass-all switch. The MCF filters out resource management
(RM) cells to the raw cell queue for host processing and passes all other cells directed to this
channel number by the address mapping mechanism.
•
For FT=10, the application behaves as a segment switch by terminating segment cells.
•
For FT=01, the application behaves as an endpoint switch or NT by terminating all management
and OAM cells.
If SRSTATE[MCF] is set and RCT[NIM]=1 (non-intrusive monitoring), the MCF performs as a pass-all
switch by passing all data and management cells, but it also copies all management cells to the raw cell
queue for host monitoring. The FT field defines the type of FMC (forward monitoring cell) to be monitored
(segment or end-to-end). The monitored FMC is copied to the raw cell queue in a “terminated FMC”
format (including the internal calculated results) while the original FMC is directly switched to the
channel’s RxBD table.
