APPENDIX 3 GLOSSARY
3-column selector .......................... A column selector valve that permits an analysis
exchanging maximum three columns by switching
incoming and outgoing flow paths connected on the
column.
6-way 2-position valve ................... A flow path switching valve applicable to the pre-treatment
or similar processing.
Column control system .................. An automatic record system for the column history
(temperature, pressure, and injection number of times).
AMBIENT....................................... Ambient temperature. A temperature sensor is provided
on the left side of Chromaster 5310 column oven, with
which the surrounding temperature is continually detected.
e-line.............................................. An exclusive digital network cable for connection of
Chromaster series.
IFC board....................................... An interface board required for controlling the Chromaster
series from a PC. One IFC board is required per system.
UI pad ............................................ Keypad with LCD for operating the instrument itself.
Isocratic system............................. A system for delivering a single liquid with a single pump.
Time program ................................ A program for changing the temperature setting, the valve
position in the option valve, and the event output,
according to the measuring timing.
Low pressure gradient system....... A system for conducting analysis by varying the mixing
ratio of two or more mobile phases with time, using a
single pump.
Preheat .......................................... A method of controlling the liquid temperature of a mobile
phase that will influence analysis, before the mobile phase
enters the column.
Peltier ............................................ A semiconductor device that allows heat exchange from
one direction to another by flowing a current. Cooling or
heating is possible according to the direction of current
flow.
