Rear Drive Shaft Description

A ball fixed type constant velocity joint is used on the wheel side of rear drive shaft and a double offset type constant
velocity joint (DOJ) on the differential side.

Rear Drive Shaft Removal and Installation

Removal
1) Remove caulking of drive shaft nut (2) and then
remove drive shaft nut and washer (1).
2) Remove tire and drain rear differential oil referring
to“Rear Differential Oil Change in Section 3B”.
3) Hoist vehicle.
4) Remove parking brake wire mounting bolt (1), rear
control rod outer bolts (2) and rear trailing rod rear
bolt (3).
5) Install used clamp (2) to differential side joint (1) and
pull out drive shaft from rear differential gear case by
using tire lever (3).
6) Remove drive shaft.
Installation
Install drive shaft assembly by reversing removal
procedure and noting the following points.
• Be sure to use new drive shaft nut (1).

1. Wheel side joint
: Apply light black grease included in spare part to joint.

2. Boot band 5. Differential side joint (DOJ)
: Apply light black grease included in spare part to joint.
8. Snap ring
3. Boot 6. Snap ring : Do not reuse.
