Engine Cooling System: 1F-8
If valve starts to open at a temperature substantially
below or above specific temperature, thermostat unit
should be replaced with a new one. Such a unit, if
reused, will bring about overcooling or overheating
tendency.
Water Valve (If Equipped) Removal and
Installation

Removal
1) Drain cooling system by loosening drain plug of
radiator referring to “Cooling System Flush and
Refill”.
2) Remove water valve referring to “Cooling System
Components”.
Installation
Reverse removal procedure to install water valve noting
the followings.
• Insert water valve (1) to throttle body water inlet hoses
(2) directing gold side to cylinder head.
• Refill cooling system with proper coolant referring to
“Cooling System Flush and Refill”.
• Verify that there is no coolant leakage at each
connection.
Water Valve (If Equipped) Inspection

Check water valve operation as follows:
1) Connect water valve (1) to vacuum pump gauge (A)
discharge side as shown, and then check that air
comes out from water valve (1).
Special tool
(A): 09917–47011
2) Immerse water valve (1) in heated water (more than
90
°
C (194
°
F)) for 5 minutes, and then check that air
does not come out from water valve (1).
If check result is not as specified, replace water
valve.
Radiator Cooling Fan On-Vehicle Inspection

1) Check low speed operation of radiator cooling fan as
follows.
a) Connect battery to fan motor coupler as shown
in figure.
b) Check that radiator cooling fan rotates smoothly
and ammeter indicates specified current.
If any abnormality is found, replace fan motor.
Fan motor specified current at 12 V
