Chapter 3
Introduction to Database Configuration
The FRX8000 database comprises records grouped into files. Each record contains
parameters that define a specific component; for example, RLP 3 in Node 12. Each
file contains all same-type records in the database. (The LP file contains all RLP
records, the Node file all Node records, etc.) An identical database resides in each
FRX8000 ICP and INM (and each N7000/FRX NMP), allowing the entire network to
operate as a single entity.
The following shows where to find the various configuration database files among the
FRX8000 menus. (The first item,
Configuration
, is an entry on the Main Menu.) Fol-
lowing most items are descriptions of the associated database records, statements as
to whether a record is required, and references to the chapters or appendices where the
items are described.
Even if a record is required, configuration of some parameters in that
record might be optional. Determination depends on the specific use of the
FRX8000 component (LP, port, etc.) being configured.

Configure Network Defaults
– Chapter 4
.
Node and X.25 level-3
parameters the network needs for proper operation of FRX8000s.
Required.
B
Configure Network Representation
– Chapter 4. Graphic map of the
network, which will display icons representing nodes or parts of the
network, plus color-coded operational status. Will also display outstanding
alarms and port status.
C
Configure Async PAD Profile
– Chapter 13. Operating parameters for
devices connected to async PAD ports in FRX8000s. Required if attaching
to any async devices and desiring parameter values other than those in
CCITT profile STD90 or 91, which are part of the default database.
D
Configure Async PAD Login
– Chapter 13. Profile and password to be
used by a subscriber on an async PAD port. Required if login to the PAD
will be necessary.
E
Configure Async PAD Banner
– Chapter 13. Custom headings for screen
displays on terminals connected to async PAD ports.
F
Configure IPX Filter Definitions
– Chapter 15. Parameters that regulate
transmission of RIP/SAP updates, and/or generic IPX packets, per
interface and direction.
G
Configure Frame Relay Bandwidth Allocation
– Chapter 8. Defines up
to 16 groups that assign connection priorities to various types of traffic.
