When Changes Take Effect
When you add a new Telephone Number record, the change is written to the database
as soon as you enter the final parameter value. When you modify a parameter in an
existing record, the change is written to the database instantly.
The database change becomes effective at the port as soon as the next call is placed.
(The change will not affect a call in progress.)
Telephone Number Parameters
Explanations of some of the parameters follow the table.
Modem Pool ID
is specified in the
Modem Initialization file
. (See page 9-12.)
Line Speed Code
is the data transmission rate, in bits per second. This parameter is also specified in Port
records, and the value in the Telephone Number record must match that on any ports
through which the subscriber will call the node. Line speed codes are:

Alternate Node 1–6
Alternate nodes handle call routing if the primary node is inoperative. For an outgoing
call, if the primary node is not available, the list is searched, and the call is routed to
the first available node. When the call is successfully placed, the database record is
automatically changed to replace the existing Node ID with the ID of the node through
which the call was connected.
