Configuring Frame Relay
8-7
Mask Link Alarms
determines whether an alarm (see
Chapter 21
) will be generated if the link goes up or
down. If
Mask Link Alarms
is
Y
, these alarms will not be generated.
Link Management
determines whether, and what type of, configurable network management will be
allowed:
0
= none
1
= LMI (Local Management Interface)
2
= ANSI T1.617 Annex D
N1 Polling Count
is the frequency with which the user device will request a Full Status Report, which
shows frame relay PVC status and Keep Alive Sequence information. (Keep Alive
Sequencing is the continuous exchange of sequence numbers between the network and
user device, verifying to each that the link between them is up.)
Each exchange of one enquiry and one message is a cycle, and the number specified
for this parameter is the number of cycles between Full Status Reports.
If this port is configured as logical DCE, status enquiries will be initiated at the remote
end, and the local node will respond with PVC status information. If this port is logical
DTE, status enquiries will be initiated at this node.
N2 Error Threshold
is the number of link reliability and/or link management protocol errors that can occur
during the period defined by the
Monitored Events Count
(see next entry) before a
channel or frame relay device is declared inactive.
Monitored Events Count
is used to determine whether a channel or user device is active. After the channel/
device is declared inactive (“
N2 Error Threshold
”), the network will wait the number
of successful polling cycles specified by the
Monitored Events Count
, then declare the
channel/device active again. The value specified for this parameter should be greater
than or equal to the value specified for
N2
.
Link Integrity Timer
determines the frequency with which the user device will send a Status Enquiry
message to the network, requesting a Keep-Alive Sequence exchange.
Poll Verification Timer
determines how long the network will wait between Status Enquiry messages before
recording an error. The value specified for this parameter should be greater than or
equal to the value specified for the
Link Integrity Timer
.
Enable Outgoing Rate Ctrl?
determines whether the rate control parameters (CIR, B
C
, B
E
) configured on the
Frame Relay DLCIs
file (see page 8-10) will be enforced. These parameters specify
the traffic load that the port will be committed to handle under normal and bursty (tem-
porarily heavy) conditions.
Enable Bandwidth Alloc?
determines whether
bandwidth allocation
(see page 8-2) will be enforced.
