Boot Disk Download Operations
These operations will update nodes by copying files from the local FRX8000 INM/
NMP in one of the following ways:
●
Configuration Update
– downloads all database records (LP, Port, LAN card,
etc.) relative to a remote FRX8000, or LP and Port records for LPs 0–3 to a
remote N74/7500. (An N74/7500 DPPM node gets these records from its local
disk, so those local records must be kept current.)
●
All Software Update
– downloads all necessary software to one or all nodes in a
network. This is generally used to update a system to a new FRX8000 release,
and is described under “Remote Software Update” on page 6.
●
LP Software Update
– downloads LP operating software to any or all nodes.
(This is used to update software or replace corrupted software.)
●
Node Software Update
– downloads node operating software to any or all N7400
nodes. (This is used to update software or replace corrupted software.)
●
Single File Update
– downloads a single file to any or all nodes. (To download
to an NMP, use the File Transfer operation, described on page 18-21.)
1. Press
[D]
at the Node Operations Menu (or
[B], [B], [D]
from the Main Menu) to
display the Boot Disk Download Operations Menu.
2. Press the letter next to your choice.
3. When prompted, enter the node
ID, or press
[Enter]
to select all nodes.
4. If you are downloading a single file, enter (when prompted) source and desti-
nation file names.
5. When a message informs you that the operation is complete, press any key to
return to the Boot Disk Download Operations Menu.
Remote Software Update
The
All Software Update
operation is generally used to update an entire network to a
new release of FRX8000 or N7000 software, after the new software has been installed
locally into one INM or NMP and attached node.
Once the update process begins, there will be different releases of FRX8000 software
running in the network until all nodes and NMPs have been updated. For this reason,
updating an entire network remotely takes some careful planning, to avoid problems
with such functions as call processing and alarm reporting. Although it may be
tedious, network operation may be smoother if configuration records are modified to
assure that nodes are always reporting to an INM/NMP/ICP running the same release.
While much of an update can be performed using
All Software Update
,
some devices require additional on-site action, described on
page 18-7
.
