Enabling Backouts
The
Clear Remote Master
operation removes master status from a specified INM or
NMP and automatically brings its database into synchronization with the remaining
master. The
Enable Backouts
operation brings into sync any other ICPs, INMs, and
NMPs that were partitioned along with the cleared master.
The master reports when the non-master INMs/NMPs in the other part of the network
need to have their databases brought into sync, with the printer message:
Node
“
n
”
needs backouts enabled
.
1. Press
[C]
at the
Database Concurrency Operations Menu
.
2. When prompted, enter the node number.
3. Check all printed messages, to determine whether anything more must be done.
4. Press
[F3]
once to return to the Database Concurrency Operations Menu, or three
times to return to the Main Menu.
Database Recovery
This operation brings an ICP, INM, or NMP with an inconsistent database into syn-
chronization with the rest of the network, if other concurrency operations do not
suffice. Perform database recovery only if a printer message informs you that it is
required.
Any INM or NMP can request database recovery; however, the current master actually
executes the recovery, since it has the most current database. This operation can be
performed only when no other database maintenance is in progress; if there is any, you
will be notified that the recovery cannot be done. Wait a few minutes and try again.
1. Press
[A]
at the Database Concurrency Operations Menu.
2. The screen displays the ID number of the current master and asks:
Start
Recovery?
Type
y [Enter]
.
3. When the recovery is complete (a message will inform you), check the printouts
to determine that it was successful.
4. Press
[F3]
once to return to the Database Concurrency Operations Menu, or three
times to return to the Main Menu.
