Initialize File
and
Maintenance
require
master status
.
The operations are described over the next few pages. The order of the four operations
on the screen is of no particular importance. When creating a new database, only
Main-
tenance
will probably be used.
Initialize File
This operation allows you to append a previously saved file to an existing one, or to
delete the existing one so a new one can be built by creating new records. The oper-
ation requires master status.
This operation should be performed only by, or under the direction of, a
system administrator or qualified service representative, and only at an
INM that is not running in a network. Initializing a file deletes all records
in that file.
1. At the Operations Menu, select
List
. Using
Output to Hardcopy Device
, print the
existing file (for reference).
2. Using
Output to Disk File
, save the existing file.
3. Select
Initialize File
.
4. When prompted, enter your database maintenance or high-level operations
password (or press
[Enter]
to return to the Operations Menu).
5. You will be asked:
Initialize File?
To delete the existing file, press
[Y]
; if you are
going to append a saved file to the existing one, press
[N]
.
6. You are asked:
Initial File Load?
To load a previously saved file (see step 2), press
[Y]
and proceed with step 7. If you are not going to load a previously saved file,
press
[N]
to exit the operation.
If you initialized the existing file but did not perform an initial file load,
you will have to build a new file by creating new records (using
Mainte-
nance
operations).
7. When asked for a file specification, enter the file name you saved in step 2.
8. As records are loaded into the file, the number of records added and number of
errors (if any) are displayed. If there are errors, print the new file and compare the
printout to the printout of the saved file from step 1. When you have isolated the
errors, add or change the necessary records. (See “
Maintenance
”on page 3-9.)
9. Press any key to return to the Operations Menu.
