The software is case sensitive toward passwords. When shipped:
The root password is
mypass
The login password is also
mypass
The database maintenance password is

The high-level operations password is

The low-level operations password is

The computer interface password is

The line monitor password does not exist
The remote control password does not exist.
Changing Passwords
Passwords can include any alphanumeric key, as well as
[Del]
and
[BackSpace]
.

are not valid.) (Remember that UNIX is case sensitive.)
Root Password
1. At the
[NETLINK]
prompt, type
lo [Enter]
.
2. At the login prompt, type
root [Enter]
.
3. When prompted, enter your current root password.
4. At the

passwd (name) [Enter]
, where
(name)
is your login name.
5. When prompted, enter a new password, 5-85 characters. Re-enter it for verifi-
cation, when prompted.
6. You will be returned to the

prompt.
Login Password
1. At the

.
2. When prompted, enter a new password, 5–85 characters. Re-enter it for verifi-
cation, when prompted.

Other Passwords
The
Change Passwords
operation allows you to change the low-level, high-level,
database maintenance, computer interface, line monitor, and remote control pass-
words (as well as create or delete a line monitor or remote control password).
All of these passwords except the remote control password will exist in the network
database; therefore, a change will affect all nodes. A separate remote control password
is specified for each node.
The computer interface and line monitor passwords are specific network
defaults that are sent to each node at IPL. If one is changed while the
network is operational, you must then perform an
Update Network Defaults
(
[B], [G]
from the Main Menu; described in
Chapter 18
), to inform all the
nodes of the change immediately.
