Introduction to Database Configuration
3-7
List
This operation displays, prints, or saves to disk, a summary of the contents of a
database file. Because a list contains parameter values but not their names, summaries
will be fairly cryptic and may require some interpretation, as is evident in the example
in
Figure 3-2
. However, this information is not generally used by the system operator,
but by Cabletron Systems Technical Support.
To create a list:
1. Press
[D]
at the Operations Menu. (Another menu may be displayed, allowing you
to choose what information will be included in the list.)
2. You may be prompted for a node ID. If so, enter a node number to list the records
for components of that node, or press
[Enter]
to list records for all nodes on the
network.
3. A menu will be displayed, allowing you to choose among sending the file to the
printer, the screen, or the hard disk. These options are described in the following
paragraphs.
Output to Hardcopy Device
Press
[A]
at the Output Device Menu to print the information. Press
[F3]
at any time to
truncate the report. (Press
[F3]
again to return to the Operations Menu.) When the
message:
File List Terminated
signals the end of the report, press
[F3]
to return to the
Operations Menu.
The format of the report is similar to the display in
Figure 3-2
.
Output to Disk File
1. At the Output Device Menu, press
[B]
.
2. When asked:
Formatted Output?
, press
[N]
.
3. When prompted for a file specification, enter a file name, noting these recommen-
dations:
●
All characters should be lowercase, since the database file names are uppercase,
and you don't want to write over them.
●
Specify a name using any combination of letters and numbers (but no spaces) in
the format “filename.ext,” where “filename” is 1–8 characters and “ext” is 3
characters. The first part can act as a specific identifier within a broader category
defined by the second part.
●
Choose a name that helps identify the file. For example, an appropriate name for
the Port Configuration file is “portcon.fil.”
4. When the message:
File list terminated
appears, the output is finished. Press
[Enter]
to return to the Operations Menu.
5. Press
[F3]
repeatedly to return to the Main Menu.
