G
Gateway
is a port that provides access to a “foreign” network (one that is not part of your local
network).
gcon
is one of two INM/NMP programs that provides operator interface to the network and
database operations, including the graphics-mode Network Representation and Status
Display operations. The other is consol, which is identical to “gcon,” except that it
does not have access to graphics mode.
H
HPAD
is an integral (to an FRX8000 or N7000 node) SNA or BSC PAD connected to a host
device.
Hunt group
is a designated group of ports that share incoming calls according to a pre-defined
algorithm.
I
ICMP
stands for “internet control message protocol,” which handles IP error and control
messages. Gateways and hosts use ICMP to report problems concerning datagrams
back to the source.
ICP
stands for “Integrated Call Processor,” and identifies a UNIX-based FRX8000 or
N7500 switching node that also has call processing capability.
IEEE
stands for “Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers.”
INM
stands for Integrated Network Manager, which is a UNIX-based FRX8000 or N7500
node with all the functionality of an NMP (described later).
Internet
is an interconnected group of packet-switching networks, joined by gateways sup-
porting the TCP/IP protocol. The term also refers to the DARPA (Defense Advanced
Projects Research Agency) Internet.
