Configuring Net work Parameters

Creating a Network Representation
Network Representation maintenance operations allow you to create a visual
description of your network, with a geographic outline and network components. The
information can then be retrieved in the
Graphics-Level Status Display
(see page 19-
10), which shows on-line status for the components you placed into the record.
Inquiry
and
Maintenance
on the Network Representation file can be per-
formed only at an INM.
The components in a network display are represented by various icons, shown in
Figure 4-4
. To simplify the display for a large network, you can represent parts of it
as “subnets” (subnetworks), and create a separate display for each subnetwork. A sub-
network can contain nodes or other subnetworks. You can have as many as 99
network/subnet displays for a network, and as many as 250 objects in any one display.
Each node, however, can exist only once in the network record, so the same node
cannot be in two subnets (unless one is within the other).
To configure a Network Representation record, press
[B]
, then
[C]
at the Network
Selection Menu (
Figure 4-1
). The screen will go blank for a few seconds as the
software enters graphics level. When prompted, enter:
●
Network/Subnetwork ID: 1-250
. (Default is
1
.) (Although this is the same range as
for node IDs, there is no necessary correlation.)
●
Network/Subnetwork Name
(if a new record): up to 21 characters.
