Commercial Control Sera for the ISE
When using commercial control sera for the ISE, be sure to consider the following:
Commercial control sera contains additives for regulating the concentration of •
components, as well as various preservatives. If these kinds of control sera are measured
using an ion-selective electrode, the added materials may adversely affect the electrode,
and could cause measurement errors including abnormal data. It is possible that the
effects of preservatives on results may change over time.
Control sera recommended by Beckman Coulter are listed below. Changes in added •
components (especially preservatives) may occur in the future.

Caution
The following items affect measurement:
The K and Cl results are not affected by bilirubin, but small positive errors will occur in the Na •
results.
Positive errors will occur in the Cl results due to other halogen ions (Br, I).
•
If the hematocrit value for the total blood sample is 65% or more, positive errors may be recognized •
in the K results.
When measuring plasma samples, use Beckman Coulter recommended anticoagulants. Any other
•
anticoagulants could cause measurement errors.
In order to prevent fluctuations due to the sample evaporation, tightly cap and properly store samples. •
Measuring the Patient Sample (Normal Analysis)
On the operation screen, measurement of the patient sample is called normal analysis.

Obtaining Appropriate Analysis Results
After starting analysis, check the quality-control charts, and patient results on the printout.
Periodically check results after the sample has been analyzed.
