TROUBLESHOOTING [ENGINE CONTROL KL]
STEP
INSPECTION
ACTION
3
CHECK FOR POWER AT VEHICLE HEATED
OXYGEN SENSOR HARNESS
CONNECTOR
• Key off.
• Disconnect appropriate heated oxygen
sensor(s).
• Inspect both ends of connector(s) for
damaged or pushed out pins, moisture,
corrosion, contamination, etc. Repair as
necessary.
• Key on, engine off.
• Measure voltage between power circuit
and ground circuit at heated oxygen sensor
vehicle harness connector.
• Is voltage greater than 10.5 volts?
Yes
Go to step 5.
No
Go to next step.
4
CHECK FOR OPEN HEATED OXYGEN
SENSOR POWER CIRCUIT
• Key off.
• Disconnect PCM. Inspect both ends of
connector for bent or pushed out pins,
corrosion or other damage. Repair as
necessary.
• Install breakout box. Leave PCM
disconnected.
• Disconnect suspected sensor.
• Measure resistance between Test Pin 71 or
97 at breakout box and power circuit at
heated oxygen sensor vehicle harness
connector.
•
Is resistance between 4.0 ohms?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
CHECK fuse.
SERVICE open circuit if necessary.
REMOVE breakout box.
RECONNECT all components.
RESET PCM to completely clear DTCs.
c r After Repair Procedure
COMPLETE OBD II Drive Mode.
RERUN OBD Test.
5
CHECK HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR
HEATER RESISTANCE
•
Key off.
• Heated oxygen sensor disconnected.
• Connect circuit tester to heated oxygen
sensor ground circuit and power terminals
at heated oxygen sensor connector, and
measure resistance of heated oxygen
sensor heater.
• Is resistance between
3
and 30 ohms?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
REPLACE heated oxygen sensor.
REMOVE breakout box.
RECONNECT all components.
RESET PCM to completely clear DTCs.
c r After Repair Procedure
COMPLETE OBD II Drive Mode.
RERUN OBD Test.
6
CHECK FOR HEATER GND AND POWER
CIRCUIT SHORTED TO HEATED OXYGEN
SENSOR CASE
•
Suspect sensor disconnected.
•
Measure resistance between heated
oxygen sensor heater ground at heated
oxygen sensor connector and heated
oxygen sensor case.
•
Measure resistance between heated
oxygen sensor heater ground or ground
terminal at heated oxygen sensor.
•
Measure resistance between heated
oxygen sensor power circuit at heated
oxygen sensor sensor connector and
heated oxygen sensor case.
• is resistance greater than 10,000 ohms?
Yes
Go to next step.
No
REPLACE heated oxygen sensor.
REMOVE breakout box.
RECONNECT all components.
RESET PCM to completely clear DTCs.
