Chapter 2: Features
Mailboxes
Your NT Voice Mail system may contain one or more of the following mailbox types. In addition,
these pages also describe features that are available to the mailboxes.
Announcement Mailbox
Plays announcements recorded by the System Administrator to Automated Attendant callers.
Typical announcements include meeting schedules and new product information. The
announcement can play up to 10 times. After the announcement, the Voice Mail says Good-bye
and hang up or returns the caller to the Automated Attendant dialing options.

Call Routing Mailbox
Lets callers press a dialpad key (0
–
9, *, #) to route their own calls to the desired locations or
features. The Call Routing Mailbox is the core of the Automated Attendant, because it pro-
vides callers with “secondary” routing options. You can assign a Call Routing Mailbox to a
Subscriber, Message Center, Interactive, or
FAX
Mailbox.
Each Call Routing Mailbox contains a Dial Action Table (DAT), which tells the Automated
Attendant how to handle the digits dialed during an inbound call. You have previously assigned
both an action
—
a specific routing option
—
and a number to each dialpad key (0
–
9, *, #) in
the DAT. For example: You could assign “Screened Transfer to 306” to Key 1, so that the
Automated Attendant would transfer a call to extension 306 when the caller presses Key 1. In
the DAT, you can also assign an action and number to the timeout function (TIMEOUT). The
NT Voice Mail allows up to 100 Dial Action Tables. (For more information about how a DAT
functions, see Customizing Dial Action Tables, starting on page 129.)
Each Call Routing Mailbox may also contain either a recorded Welcome Message or a
recorded separate Instruction Menu. The Welcome Message now consists of both a greeting to
callers and a list of their call-routing options (Instruction Menu). The separate Instruction
Menu is a list of call-routing options that duplicates those in the Welcome Message without
repeating the greeting to callers. (For information about how to set up a Welcome Message or
Instruction Menu for a Call Routing Mailbox, see Call Routing Mailbox on page 109.)
