Screened Transfer to an Extension (cont’d)
If the Voice Mail is set up with screened transfers (TRFs), extension users must not forward
their phones to the Voice Mail, unless the value of the phone system timer for the number of
rings before forwarding has been set to a higher value than that of the Number of Rings before
Redirect timer in the Call Routing Mailbox that processed the call. This applies to all phone
systems except one or two. See the Phone System Integration Guide for further information.

TRF
Notes:
To allow a screened transfer to a specific extension, enter the extension
number in the Number field.
For example, to allow screened transfers to every two-digit extension
that begins with the digit 1, enter TRF in the Action field for Key 1 and
enter XX in the Number field, so that your DAT for Key 1 would read:
Key 1: Action: TRF
Number: XX
A Guest, Subscriber, or Message Center extension can receive both
screened transfers and messages only if the extension number has
been assigned to the Extension field of a Guest, Subscriber, or Message
Center Mailbox. To do this, select Mailbox Options on the Customize
menu.
To let a Guest, Subscriber, or Message Center extension receive
screened transfers but not messages after incomplete transfers, make
sure that you do both of the following:
Q
assign the extension number to the Extension field of a Guest,
Subscriber, or Message Center Mailbox.
Q
enable the Transfer-only Mailbox option for the mailbox. To do
this, select Mailbox Options on the Customize menu.
To let a caller transfer to a Subscriber, Guest, or Message Center Mail-
box and then immediately leave a message, make sure that you do not
assign an extension number to those mailboxes.
To set the following options related to screened transfers, select System
Options on the Customize menu and then:
Q
RNA, Hold retrieval string to retrieve unanswered screened
transfers
Q
Busy, Hold retrieval string to retrieve busy screened transfers
Q
Transfer string dialed before the Voice Mail will dial the extension.
Use the System Administrator Options or a mailbox option to record a
name for a Subscriber, Guest, or Message Mailbox, so that the owner’s
name instead of the owner’s extension number will play in extension
status messages, such as Joe’s Extension is busy.
To block Auto Attendant transfers to a Subscriber Mailbox and/or to
assign a Next Call Routing Mailbox to a Subscriber Mailbox and/or
Message Center Mailbox, select Mailbox Options on the Customize
menu.
