Channel Parameters Tab
After you click the Channel parameters tab, you will see a dialog box tab that is similar to the one
shown below. Channel Parameter values control Voice Mail operations on a per-port basis. Unless
otherwise noted, the default value for any Channel Parameter depends on which phone system is
installed. DO NOT CHANGE ANY CHANNEL PARAMETER VALUES UNLESS ADVISED
TO DO SO BY THE VOICE MAIL MANUFACTURER.
The Channel Parameters tab displays these parameters:
DTMF Edge
The value for this parameter determines the selection for the DTMF detection edge.
DTMF Talk
The value for this parameter determines the minimum duration in milliseconds that DTMF tone
must be present during message playback, before the Voice Mail will detect and recognize DTMF.
Standard DTMF tones are supposed to last at least 50 milliseconds. But if the DTMF source is pro-
ducing tones of a shorter duration than this value, the Voice Mail may not recognize them during
call processing when some cell phones, cordless phones, or other manufacturer’s phones are used.
Values represent increments of 16 ms, and the recommended range of entries is 2 to 4. Any value
below this range may result in talkoff experienced by the system. Increasing the value provides
more immunity to talkoff/playoff, but any value above this range may not be recognized as DTMF
tone by the Voice Mail.
