Video Checksums Custom Controls
The Video Checksums custom control is a diagnostic tool that allows technical support and other Ross
Video Staff to diagnose the operation of specific switcher functions based on the video output of the
MLEs. When a check-sum is inserted into a custom control macro, the switcher records the values that
are returned at that point. When the custom control is run again, the switcher will compare the new
values that are returned against the stored values and report either an error or a validation at the end of
the custom control.
Types of Checksums
There are two types of checksums that can be computed in a custom control: short and long. The
difference between these types is based on the checksum register(s) and video stream(s) used to
compute and verify the checksum values.
Each MLE has four checksum registers:
• FE out (Front End FPGA out)
• Vid in (Video Processor in)
• Vid out (Video Processor out)
• FE in (Front End FPGA in)
A short checksum allows you to pick which of these four registers is used to compute the checksum.
As stated above, checksum values are based on specific video output so selecting a short checksum
also allows you to select which video stream to use as follows:
• FE out and Vid in checksums

~ K1A/K2A
~ K1V
~ Trans_mix 0/1
~ K2V
• Vid out and FE in checksums
~ Program
~ Prview
~ Clean
A long checksum calculates checksum values for each of the four checksum registers with each of the
video streams. No user intervention is required.
Setting Up a Checksum Custom Control
Use the following procedure to add a Checksum to a custom control
1. Navigate to the Custom Controls Menu 1-2 as follows:
