Synergy Q/MD Engineering Manual (v9.1 MD)

Communications Overview

The eight (five on the 

Synergy 1 

control panel) 9-pin “D”-type connectors on the rear of the control 

panel are provided for serial communication with remote peripheral devices, such as VTRs, disk 
recorders, video servers, audio boards, and other serial controlled devices. With the exception of the 
Editor setup, all peripheral equipment discussed in this chapter is connected to these ports. 

If you have installed a Remote Port Expander (BSS4) to the Synergy switcher, there are four 
additional remote ports labelled

, corresponding to the 

Slave Ports

 on the BSS4 that 

will start with the number of the remote port that the BSS4 is connected to.
