Under Monitor Display Input Devices
The Under Monitor Display Input Device (UMD Input) allows a UMD controller to provide names for
video sources that are routed to the Synergy Q/MD switcher. These names are displayed on the
crosspoint mnemonics and menus for the video sources.
Ensure that the Serial Tally option is installed. If not, contact Ross Video for details. Refer to the
section “
Installed Options ” on page 6-27 for instructions on verifying the status of installed options.
Under Monitor Display Device Communications Connections
In order to properly connect the UMD device to the switcher, you will need the following:
• UMD Input Interface Cable — A serial cable with a male 9-pin, D-type connector on
one end. Refer to the documentation that came with your UMD Input device for
information on the communications port that connects to the Synergy Q/MD switcher.
Refer to the section “
Control Panel Pinouts ” on page 30-15 for pinout information.
UMD Input Device Communications Setup
Use the following procedure to configure a Synergy Q/MD switcher communications port for a UMD
Input device:
1. Navigate to the Communications Menus as follows:
• Press HOME B More B Setup B Installation B Communications .
1. Press Type to display the Device Type Menu .

2. Assign a communications port to the UMD Input as follows:
• Use the Com Port knob to select the communications port on the Synergy Q/MD
switcher that is connected, or assigned, to the UMD Input device.
• Use the Device knob to select UMD Input .
3. Press Select Device .
