Warning
Following troubleshooting flow chart contains fuel system diagnosis and repair procedures. Read following
warnings before performing fuel system service:
• Fuel vapor is hazardous, it can easily ignite, causing serious injury and damage. Always keep sparks and flames
away from fuel.
• Fuel line spills and leaks are dangerous. Fuel can ignite and cause serious injuries or death and damage. Fuel
can also irritate skin and eyes. To prevent this, always complete “ BEFORE REPAIR PROCEDURE” and “AFTER
REPAIR PROCEDURE” described in this manual.

When engine cannot be started, check
intake-air system for air leakage.
When engine can be started, carry out intake
manifold vacuum inspection.
Is air sucked in from intake-air system?
Yes Repair or replace.
No Go to next step.
2 Carry out fuel pressure inspection.
Is fuel pressure correct?
Fuel line pressure
260— 310 kPa {2.6— 3.2 kgf/cm2,
37— 46 psi} at ignition switch ON
Yes Check following PID.
• MAF PID.

[FS]
• ECT PID.
D- 01—40A ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE
SENSOR INSPECTION [FS]
• 02S11, 02S 12 PID.
tr 01-40A HEATED OXYGEN SENSOR INSPECTION
[FS]
(When engine can be started).
• Check for PCM ground condition.
No Repair or replace.
ENGINE SYSTEM INSPECTION [FS]
Intake Manifold Vacuum Inspection
1. Verify air intake hoses are installed properly.
2. Start the engine and run at idle.
3. Measure the intake manifold vacuum by using a
vacuum gauge.

4. If not as specified, check following.
• Air suction at:
Throttle body installation point.
Intake manifold installation point.
PCV valve installation point.
• Fuel injector insulator.
• Accelerator cable free play.
• Engine compression (Refer to 0 1 -1 OA
COMPRESSION INSPECTION [FS],
Fuel Injector Operation Inspection
1. Warm up the engine and run at idle (or cranking if
it does not start.)
2. Listen for the operational sound of each injector
with a soundscope.

• Compare the sound of each injector because
